Course description:

Beginner's courses include all the basic techniques such as coiling, slab methods, thrown pots and sculpting in clay. Various decorative techniques, including sgraffito, slip-painting, under-glazing and glazing. Typically, students beginning from scratch and will produce about 6-8 finished pieces in their first course, after which they work on their own projects and receive one-to-one tuition.

The courses concentrate on three-dimensional art – sculpture and pot-making, with an emphasis on technical skills development and artistic exploration. Classes are designed to be relaxing and fun, without the pressure of academic qualifications, but with all the support and educational guidance needed to develop good work and gain experience with clay. Students are encouraged to experiment and to develop their own styles and techniques.

The Small Print…

  • A deposit secures your spot on the course; however, full payment for the course is due before or on the day of the first class (if you’re paying cash).

  • You can book for one class and occasionally you may be able to switch class on a week when you can’t make your normal class, but that will depend on how full the class is to which you want to move. That will be Anne’s decision and you should message her at least a day in advance of switching.

  • If you have to miss a week, you can take two classes on another week to make up your missed class. Unfortunately we can’t carry classes forward from the end of each term however.

  • There is a charge of €12 per kg of dry clay used , which will be settled up at the end of term, to cover firings, glaze and clay. Your work will be weighed before being fired, so you can check any time if you’re interested… If you are making pieces at home and bringing them to class for firing, they will only be accepted if we know what clay you have used, and will be added to your weight tally.

In 2026 we are returning to 10-week courses at the same per-week price, so €450 inc Vat for 10 classes, then €12 per kg for materials and firings.
